Map & Off-road Trail Book Recommendations
National Geographic Trails Maps are our basic maps of choice. Even in the electronic age we still love to have foldable, up to date maps to plan trips and carry with us for reference. Trails Illustrated maps are the most trusted and popular recreation maps available. Continually setting the standard for accuracy, each map is crafted in conjunction with local land managers and undergoes rigorous review and enhancement before being printed on waterproof, tear-resistant material. Each Trails Illustrated map contains detailed topographic information, clearly marked trails, recreational points of interest, and navigational aids.
The Guides to Backroads and Four Wheel Drive Trails are our favorite trail books with their easy to use layout, accurate information, and GPS log support. These color coded trail books are well thought out and having them spiral bound means they lay flat for easy reference. If your looking for the top trails in a state these are our first go to resource.
Backcountry Adventures trail books are also a good resource and have a lot of good history, floral, fauna, and photographs. We use these a lot however they are heavy and don't lay flat. They are older and many out of print so prices are higher.
DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer Series topographic atlases cover individual states with the most comprehensive detail available, including back roads, backwater lakes and streams, boat ramps, forests, wetlands, trailheads, campgrounds, public lands, prime hunting and fishing spots, and countless landmarks and points of interest. You'll also find a wealth of information on everything from family outings to wilderness adventures. These a great state level maps.
